SAD DIVA (2022)

Interactive Augmented Reality Installation

In our contact with different screens and media ranging from TVs, computer screens to     even Billboard videos, pop performances and sad divas are constantly transmitted to brainwash the idea of epitome of a flawless human full of beauty, glamour and joy. But behind those diva’s modulated voices with reverb effects and disco-like appearance are the hidden traumas, pain and suppressed tears under the society’s pressure or even, the country’s severe authority and surveillance. Just like the opening scene of the science fiction film Blade Runner (1982), this artwork is an ironic reimagination of Burmese Sad Divas represented on the biggest digital screens in a dystopia futuristic city, displayed in a humorous and flamboyant manner.

<--- Exhibition Sketch

Pop performances are used as a propaganda tool for the junta to brainswash the citizen of country's peace and prosperity. Sad figures of divas are trapped and stuck on our screens since the 1980s and has been still until this generation. In its almost dystopian nature, in Myanmar media culture, the beauty and glamor of those divas, their songs and the stages contrast drastically with the trauma and tragedy of country's downfall and war.
