THE ALTAR

The photobook follows the narrative of my actual childhood memory that I remember so vividly.  The photograph sequences are loosely based on it.  It is similar to the journey of Buddha’s way to enlightenment. When Buddha starved himself to extremity in the forest following the way of a ascetic yogi, he remembered his childhood memory in his hard times. He remembers that when he was young, he was sitting by the river bank and saw a group of tiny insects wandering in the grass. He realizes that by moonsoon, with the plowing of the grasses, the insects will face adversity and eventually die. This awareness of suffereing and compassion for suffering led him to the true path of enlightenment.

The photobook uses a wide range of materials such as gold fabric for cover and metallic bronze gold, beige, silver print on black and transparent papers for the layout.
